Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy manga and anime series that depicts a world where humans and ghouls coexist. Ghouls are creatures that look like humans but can only survive by eating human flesh. They also have special organs called kagune that they can use as weapons or shields. Ghouls are hunted by the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG), a government organization that employs special weapons called quinque, which are made from ghoul kagune.

Ken Kaneki is the main character of the series. He was a normal college student who loved reading books until he met Rize Kamishiro, a beautiful woman who turned out to be a ghoul. She attacked him and tried to eat him, but a freak accident caused steel beams to fall on them and kill her. Kaneki was severely injured and was taken to a hospital, where he received an organ transplant from Rize without his consent. This made him a half-ghoul, who can still eat human food but also needs to consume human flesh to survive. He also inherited Rize’s kagune, a powerful rinkaku type that resembles tentacles.

Kaneki struggled to adapt to his new life as a half-ghoul. He was taken in by Anteiku, a cafe that serves as a safe haven for peaceful ghouls. There, he met other ghouls who helped him learn how to control his kagune and his hunger. He also befriended Touka Kirishima, a waitress at Anteiku who is also a ghoul. However, he also faced many dangers and enemies, both from the CCG and from other ghouls who wanted to kill him or use him for their own purposes. He also had to deal with his own identity crisis, as he was torn between his human and ghoul sides.

My Review

Tokyo Ghoul is an anime that explores the themes of identity, morality, and survival in a world where humans and ghouls are at war. The anime follows the story of Ken Kaneki, a half-ghoul who has to hide his true nature from both sides while trying to find his place in society. The anime has a lot of action, drama, and horror elements, as well as some psychological and philosophical aspects. The anime also has a lot of interesting and complex characters, each with their own motivations and backgrounds.

The anime has two seasons, Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul √A, which cover the first 143 chapters of the manga. The anime is faithful to the manga for the most part, but it also has some changes and original scenes. The animation quality is decent, but it can be inconsistent at times. The soundtracks and voice acting are excellent, and they add to the atmosphere and emotions of the scenes. The opening and ending songs are also catchy and memorable.

The anime is not for the faint of heart, as it contains a lot of violence, gore, and tragedy. The anime also has some plot holes, pacing issues, and confusing moments, especially in the second season. The anime does not cover the entire manga, and it leaves some questions unanswered and some characters underdeveloped.
